Who is Accubuilt?

Insight into the creation and mission of Accubuilt

Jaxon Kunkel | Accubuilt Founder

Off-roading and fabrication have been part of my life from the very beginning. I’ve learned from experienced builders, racers, and mentors who shaped not only how I build, but how I approach every project. Accubuilt exists to give back to the community with parts built the right way—high-quality, well-tested, and designed for real-world use.

I’m proud to work alongside a small, tight-knit team. Kevin, my right hand man, has been part of this world for over 15 years—growing up wheeling alongside me and sharing the same commitment to doing things right. And no shop is complete without a dog—Lainey keeps an eye on the floor, boosts morale, and makes sure the shop never feels too quiet.

Not Simply Enthusiasts—Lifers

Off-roading has been part of life since the beginning. Riding along at just three years old turned into getting a buggy at a young age, learning how to drive it, and figuring out how to fix it when things broke—because they always do. Those early years weren’t just about seat time; they were about learning responsibility, problem-solving, and what it really takes to keep a rig moving.

Kunkel Fabrication

Kunkel Fabrication started as a high school side business built on curiosity and grit. It began with small metal signs and random fabrication jobs, then quickly shifted toward off-road work—axles, custom parts, and constant upgrades on my own buggy. Around the same time, a first 2x2 plasma table entered the shop and changed everything, opening the door to more precise and repeatable fabrication.

Designed from Experience

Off-roading started with my dad and grew from there. Those years spent wheeling together built a deep connection to the off-road community. Traveling to parks across the country and learning from others who were already pushing the limits added real-world knowledge you can’t get anywhere else. Every trip brings new lessons, and that experience directly shapes how these products are designed.

Tested to the Fullest

Ultra4 racing represents some of the toughest terrain and most demanding conditions in off-road motorsports. Competing in the 4600 Stock Class required reliable, well-thought-out components and an attention to detail that leaves no room for failure. Those racing connections and lessons still run deep, and that same high-level, no-compromise mindset drives the design of every product.

The Fab School

Taking things to the next level meant learning how to design as well as build. In 2022, I enrolled in the Digital Design and Manufacturing program at The Fab School to sharpen my CAD and manufacturing skills. There, I worked extensively with SolidWorks—creating models, assemblies, and blueprints—and gained hands-on experience running 3D printers, press brakes, lasers, CNC lathes, and CNC mills. Beyond the technical skills, the biggest takeaway was exposure to a different motorsport mindset. The Baja and desert racing world has long set the bar for part quality, design detail, usability, and fit and finish. That standard became the goal: bringing trophy-truck-level quality to the rock crawling world without building something overpriced or out of reach.

Testing My Skills

Time spent working at another high-level Ultra4 and off-road shop pushed skills even further. Designing products, refining fabrication techniques, and seeing parts perform in brutal, real-world environments helped bridge the gap between theory and execution. Every lesson learned there now feeds directly into better designs and smarter builds.

Accubuilt is Born

Accubuilt is the result of a lifetime spent building, breaking, learning, and improving. What started as riding along at a young age grew into fabrication, racing, design, and years of hands-on experience in the off-road world. This business brings everything full circle—turning a lifelong passion into purpose. Every product is built using high-quality materials and reflects the lessons learned along the way, with deep respect for the community and the people who helped shape the journey.
